Merry Christmas Eve

This morning I told Jackson that today was Christmas Eve. I reminded him that tonight, after he goes to sleep Santa will come. He was so excited. He said, "Mom, can I go to sleep right now?"

Merry Christmas Everyone! May your family feel peace and joy this Christmas.

December 17th?

Seriously? Is tomorrow really the 18th? Where did December go! It's already been such a fun month and I love all the cheery busy-ness of it all.
I think I'll have to play catch-up on blogging once it's January and nothing is going on!
Here's a couple pics of the DC temple at Christmas.

Aren't they stunning? Kirtis took some fantastic pictures. :)
Hope you are all having a happy Christmas season!

A perfect Thanksgiving...

This was our day. Backword. Sorry, I mean BackWARDS. ( I just realized I spelled that wrong. Has anyone else's spelling gone to pot as they've gotten older? ) Anyway, here we go:

Pin the tail on the turkey.
A few lucky ones soaked in football games via naps.
Me stuffing my face. (That is the look on my face after having my picture taken for the one trillionth time while K messed with camera settings.)
Wonderful grandparents.
My sweet sister-in-law.
Chatting it up around food.
My mother-in-law saving the day with her delicious gravy skills.
Lucky me, I shared the day with TWO of my siblings. (Left to right, my sister, my brother and my sister-in-law.)

It was a day full of gratitude and joy.

Craftiness

I was taking pictures of the latest dress I finished, and Jackson couldn't stand not being the subject. Thus a Jackson and snowman photo-shoot. We've been trying to do a craft-a-day, thanks to people like No Time for Flashcards . I seriously have no ideas on my own, but I'm great at copying!
Jackson looooves it, as he spends most the day bored and causing trouble and wishing he was in preschool, it's a great way to keep him focused.
This is our version of NTFFC's snowman snowglobe, plus J's addition of arms and legs, minus the glitter. (I didn't want to go there!)

The Button Jar

My new shop at 1000 Markets, also features a blog. I think this is such a cool way to "get to know" the real people behind all the cool stuff that is out there on 1000 markets. I'm going to try to keep mine updated pretty regularly (well, we'll see right? I am a pretty busy momma!) Just wanted to let you all know about a new post I have there about my button jar. This may be especially interesting to you and you!
This jar turns 20 years old this week!

Avery Walks, and I love you, Nikon.

We've taken about 14,000 pictures in the last 72 hours thanks to our new Nikon D60. (Okay, that's maybe a bit exaggerated.) Our baby started walking Tuesday night, and her daddy couldn't hold out any longer. So we headed to Costco and bought it! And it was $100 cheaper than last time we looked. Definitely a sign!! Here's the little bug that started all of this:

I am so excited for her to be walking, but so sad that she's growing up! She was a brand new fresh baby like 5 minutes ago. If only time could stand still a little while!

Moving on, Thanksgiving morning my little sister snapped some spontaneous family pictures of us. (I grabbed Jackson from the playground and threw a shirt and sweater on him!)
We started, here at the park.

Then, we started desperately looking for some shade, because there were too many shadows. That's where the Turner's porch came in handy! (Sorry, Brooke, for the drop-in!)That was much better. But this location was my favorite!

Something to ponder on Thanksgiving.

Happy Reading:
-------
Washington, D.C.
October 3, 1863

By the President of the United States of America.

A Proclamation.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consiousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the Unites States the Eighty-eighth.

Secretary of State

More blog catch up. 11/1 Another fall farm event!

I know all of you are sick of farm pictures on blogs by now! But I have to record this.... for posterity's sake! We had such a blast with the Turners at Great Country Farms. They are so fun to hang out with. And Coleman and Jackson play so well together. Gotta love that.
We took our carved pumpkins (the day after halloween) and the boys loved watching them smash to the ground.
It was a perfect day- perfect weather and wonderful friends. Thanks, Turners!

11/3 Redskins vs Steelers Game

Statistically, if the Washington Redskins have won their last home game before the election (in an election year) then the incumbent president's party has won the presidential election. If the opposing team has won, then the presidency has gone to the non-incumbent party's team. Got that? So I guess since the Steelers won, and the presidency went to Obama, this is an accurate way to predict Elections. Just something to keep in mind for 2012.
The Redskins running onto the field. It was a perfect night. Not too cold. Just right.

ESPN aftershow.

Man, I have to give a shout out to those football fans. They are unlike any other fans I've ever seen. The intensity is there for sure. I felt very out of place not being a hard core fan for either team. But all in all, we had a fantastic time!

Thankful

Found this idea on Make and Takes. Ours is not as cute of course. But J did most the letters all by himself!! I was so proud of him to sit still for so long! (Doesn't happen often!) This was a great way to use up our stale Honeycombs. :)
Also, I like this site. It has lots of great craft ideas for kids. She does a craft with her kids everyday. Talk about impressive! Now that J can actually do some of the things needed- coloring, cutting and gluing, this is getting more fun for me too!

Thought I'd share

A couple of weeks ago, I won a pair of these!
I haven't yet received them.....but I'm sure they're on their way.

I follow a few blogs that often have giveaways and I thought I'd share them with you. Plus they are beautiful blogs with wonderful ideas.

Click here. Here. And here. Oh yeah, and here!

Don't forget to add them to your google reader! Hope we win!

Quote of the week

Last week, I asked J to run the rest of the brownies out to the missionaries on their way out the door.

J: "Dictionaries! Dictionaries! You forgot your brownies!!"

Hope

This is the kind of hope I believe in.

Private or not?

So, every few weeks, a friend will post that they have gone private. It's not something that I really want to do. I like to have a voice that is "out there"-and be able to be "found" by people whom I may not have email addresses for. But yet, I don't exactly want any pervs hunting down my kids either. However, I haven't heard of any blog-related crimes, and with the amount of "family bloggers" that are out there....I'm just not sure it's a real risk... What is your opinion?

I would like to revamp my blog a little, just to be safe. I may be changing the title and making things more anonymous sounding....so stay posted.

Election Thoughts

Well, I've been hemming and hawing over some of my mixed emotions after the election results last night. I typically haven't posted political beliefs because it's a HOT topic and I'm not a conflict lover. But here we go!

I have to admit that I had hope up to the last minute that somehow McCain would pull through. I guess Barack's message of hope and change and hope and change, and that if you earned 250K or less (or wait, 200K, or 150K?) your taxes would go down resonated with voters.

Time will tell what happens and what Obama's message of hope and change really means. I hope it doesn't mean taking away my freedom to spend or KEEP our hard-earned money however we please.
The upside of John McCain not winning is that it gives Republicans a chance to redefine who they are, and hopefully go back to true conservatism and preserve the rights given to us by our founding fathers.

I also hoped that this state that I already love (Virginia) would go RED, but for the first time since 1964, Virginia went blue. I have to admit this has been a motivation for Kirtis and I are going to get involved in our local politics. I guess sometimes local politicians are decided by 20 or 30 votes, so we are going to start attending meetings, getting to know the issues and take part in the process. I urge you to google your local party and to do the same!

I love this country! I love that I can vote. I love that I have the freedom to express my opinions and dearly held beliefs. God bless America!!

Mixed feelings

Yesterday was my dad's birthday. He would have been 57 years old. My sister Tammy wrote a beautiful post about dad here which you must read. We all miss him so much.

It's Monday!

Are you ready for some football??
Tonight Kirtis and I are going to see the Redskins vs. Steelers play at Fedex Field! After being married to Kirtis for almost 5 years, I still ask stupid football questions! But I am so excited to be with him while he attends his first NFL game! Can't wait to see his face tonight!

Park pics with Tammy

Tammy came and hung out with us for a few hours on Friday. Jackson seriously LOVES Aunt Tammy. Whenever she leaves he throws a fit and starts crying- "I need a friend! I need a friend! I don't have any friends!!" It's kind of funny.

Have I mentioned I love diaper bums?

Halloween Night

Are you sick of halloween pics on blogs yet? Sorry. Here's some more!

J and A posing before they took off trick-r-treating.
One happy dragon!Jackson got to trick-r-treat with his best buddy Coleman! We are so lucky to live right by these guys!Checking out the stash!Avery caught on to the candy thing pretty quick and got her hands on all the suckers she could find!

This is one happy baby!
