Tour de la casa

So, a few have wanted to see pictures of our townhome here, and I will post a few. I have to say, we actually like it quite a bit, now that we are getting settled. Here are a few pics.
BedroomI love this photo montage. I finally got wedding pics, engagement pics and current pics up in the bedroom!
Hello, bathtub. I'm a big fan of bathtubs.
Could be my favorite part of this place. This picture does not even capture how huge this closet is!
View out the back of the house.
View to the side- (so colonial!)
Notice the playground in the far left of the picture. (That's right, it's right across the street from us!)

Avery Jane Videos

What Avery has been up to....getting into everything! And growing FOUR new teeth on the top. It's been a busy few weeks keeping up with her! Oh, but we adore her. :)

Ocean City, MD

August 9th.
One of the things I love about Kirtis is his spontaneity. We woke up one Saturday, and he said, let's drive to the beach! So we did. The drive was a lot longer than we would have liked (5 hours there, 3 back!), and the beach was not as great as we would have hoped, but now we can say we've been. We had a great time together though. We drove, we parked, we played, we ate a yummy olive garden dinner, then drove home with our tuckered out kids. A memorable day.

Hand Foot and Mouth

I wrote this post on August 1st! Oh my. I am so behind. :)

That's right. If you've never heard of hand foot and mouth disease, we can now tell you first hand about it! It's a highly contagious viral disease common in children. They get sores in their mouth, hands and feet, in any combination. Jackson has it in his mouth, but not on his hands or feet. It is WAY bad in his mouth! His tongue is swollen and he wouldn't even open his mouth to talk or eat or drink all day yesterday. Finally we got him to start drinking root beer last night, so I am not so worried about dehydration.
The worst part is that Jackson played with a new friend on Wednesday. That morning he woke up kind of irratable, but not at all sick, no fever, just kind of whiny. So I let him go play, thinking he just needed to get out of the house. So now, he is WAY sick. Turns out he is ALLERGIC to the virus, so he has broken out in hives from head to toe.
Here they have gone out of their way to welcome and what do we give them back? Hives!
Ahh. It's never dull with kids!
Hopefully Jackson and his new buddy will be feeling better soon. Right now he's a pretty sad little boy. I'm ready to have my active, talkative little guy back!

Since we were home all day, Jackson got into the markers and drew all over himself, then came and told me that he was a tiger. More joys!

An Evening in Washington

Oh my! These pictures are almost a month old!
We took off one Sunday evening and drove into DC. It definitely made it more real that we actually live HERE, not just Suburbia, Anywhere, USA.

That's better!

I've been in the middle of wanting to redesign my blog and have finally gotten around to it. I've gone for the "minimalist" approach. Not only was it easy to design, but I think it looks pretty neat. Sorry for the long hiatus. I have lots of pics on my camera to upload and lots of updates to share. In our case, no news is good news.
Life is good here and we are happy.

I hope you are all enjoying the last few weeks of summer.
Have lots of popsicles and pool time.

Summer fun photo contest

Link here for more info!
A truck load of dirt arrived in our backyard and then the fun began. This was a little boy's paradise!

From the archives....

I've been browsing old pictures to print off and put in frames, and ran across this one.
I just love this one. It was at my wedding. Dad had been diagnosed with cancer about a month earlier.

Mom and Dad's 35th Wedding Anniversary

Today August 10th, 2008 would have been my mom and dad's 35th Wedding Anniversary.
I have to admit, it's been a hard week for me. I've thought a lot about all that my dad has missed being gone for almost 3 months now. I've thought a lot about how painful today has to be for my sweet mom who has bravely and courageously been living her life alone these past months.
There is so much I want to tell Dad, and so much that I wish he could be here to experience with us. I think what hurts the most is him not seeing my kids grow up and them not knowing their grandpa as they grow up. Dad was always working toward milestones, and today would have been a big one for him. He hated to know that his cancer would ultimately leave Mom alone, and that makes a day like today especially hard.

I know the hole he has left in our hearts will heal with time, but for now I am just sad that Dad couldn't be here with Mom, just for today.

Virginia is for Lovers

1. Trees. That is one of the main things I just love.

2. RAIN. I love a good rain, and also the thunder and lightning that goes along with it!

3. People
I was warned that people can be quite "rude". But so far, from neighbors to checkers, the majority of people have been quite friendly. Maybe it's because I always have 2 kids with me. And Avery is so cute, she can soften anyone's heart. I even had someone walk by me in the grocery store and say, "good job." I guess they don't see babies that often!
The people in our ward have been so welcoming! We are already feeling at home and making friends. We love it.

4. Haymarket. This little town is just about 2 minutes away from our house! I love love love the quaintness!
We went to the Haymarket farmer's market on Saturday. It consisted of one grower named Shirley. I love the small town podunkness of that!

5. Being 30 minutes to an hour (depending on traffic) from DC. I love the history!

6. Walking distance to the pool. I could go every day.

7. Family: My brother's family only 30 minutes away, and grandma and grandpa hill only 5!

Some things that I'm adjusting to:

1. Sticker shock. $4 is a good price for milk? I just plan on every trip to the grocery store being about double what I expect. Yikes!

2. Gas stations named "Sheetz" and "Wa wa". Are you serious?

3. Finding my way. I've got to google map everything! No more easy coordinate system like Salt Lake. But, I also love all the old winding roads.

4. Townhome living. Lots of stair climbing. And 4 bathrooms to clean!

Fishing with Daddy and Baga

One of the first things Kirtis wanted to do was take Jackson fishing with Grandpa. Grandpa (Baga) had bought him a new pole and Jackson was so excited to catch some fish! I guess he caught 10 little fish on this trip! He had a blast and can't wait to go again!
Kirtis took some good pictures of their little excursion.

The Road Trip

Here are some pictures from our 30 hour road trip to Virginia. The kids were such good travelers! Kirtis was hardcore an we left Wednesday night, slept in Des Moines I0wa, and got there Friday night at 4 am. It was exciting for me because we got to drive through a lot of states that I had never been to. Too bad the prettiest ones (PA, WV) were in the middle of the night, so we didn't see much more than the reflectors on the road! Oh well, we'll be back!
This is me and Avery Jane in Iowa. She was seriously such a good baby! She only cried a few times.
Jackson got good at sleeping in his new car seat. When the kids would be asleep we would just keep driving and driving as long as we could. Here are some of his positions:

This is my favorite! Those are the headphones he wore to listen to his movies (so we could listen to our own stuff in the front!) (Of course I can't get it to rotate! It's rotated in iphoto, but when I click to upload it isn't! Dang!)
We had fun, but mostly we were just glad to get there!

Thanks again to Jason and Melissa for being such amazing friends and driving the truck out for us. We love you guys!
