Less is more. Right??

I seem to be running in a million directions lately. Too many good things to do and never enough time! It's all about carving out time for what is most important and finding that oh-so elusive BALANCE. When you have it figured out please call me and tell me your secrets!

So this is my mantra for the week-

Mothers who know do less. They permit less of what will not bear good fruit eternally. They allow less media in their homes, less distraction, less activity that draws their children away from their home. Mothers who know are willing to live on less and consume less of the world’s goods in order to spend more time with their children—more time eating together, more time working together, more time reading together, more time talking, laughing, singing, and exemplifying. These mothers choose carefully and do not try to choose it all.” – Julie Beck

Good day.

Beautiful day. I love rain. It makes me feel at home. I think it has to do something with all those giant Texas thunderstorms I grew up with. Also, 18 months in Hawaii (most of it on the rainy side of the Big island) helped to contribute to my love affair!

Our seeds in the garden are popping through the soil. So exciting!

We got Kirtis' wardrobe snazzed up a little for his new job tonight.  He's gonna look sharp.

Jackson is growing up so fast. He still blows me kisses and "throws me hugs" though. I hope that lasts a long time.
Avery wants to sleep with every single stuffed animal she owns (which feels like a million!) so there's always a huge pile on and around her bed (and, well, everywhere!) but she loves them so much I just don't care.
Avery trusts Jackson so much. She'll reach for his hand if the ground is unstable and Jackson will always protect her (by growling) at people we don't know. I hope that doesn't change too much either.

I wish I could just bottle my kids up at the age they are, and then pop the cork off in 20 years and just experience them at this age again. They just change too fast.

I used Clover Lane's Tutorial for my new banner. (I love her blog) I'm so happy with how my new banner turned out- and it was super easy!

I think this picture says it all.

Don't you?

Weekend Visitors

Some of our best friends from when we lived in Salt Lake (but now live in Connecticut) came to visit us for the weekend. They were our first non-family guests in our new house and it was SO fun to have them! We had a ball. The kids got along great- and the adults haven't laughed so hard in such a long time! We are so lucky to have such amazing and fun friends! Thanks Richard and Rachel for coming!

5K for Lila J

This is my friend Annie from high school with her darling family. When her daughter Lila was 3 months old she was diagnosed with an aggressive and dangerous brain tumor. After 2 years of rigorous treatment including chemotherapy and numerous surgeries (all the while being fed through a stomach tube) she is finally cancer free.... and super-cute to boot! It's an amazing story and you can read about it here. Through the whole experience they received much help and support from the pediatric brain tumor foundation. Now, they are giving back and have organized a 5K race to donate to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation

Since I won't be able to go to the race in Austin, TX, next weekend, I'm going to contribute the proceeds from my shop from Friday, April 30 to Saturday May 1st to 5KforLilaJ. Also, this will be the last chance to get Family Tree Kits in time for Mother's Day. So if you've been thinking about getting one, now is the time!
Please spread the word so we can make a great contribution to this cause.

Okay, so these are way funnier in the moment than after the fact, but I still have to journal them for memory's sake.

We were at Chic-fil-A with the kids and my mom and this kid was WHINING so loud to his mom. Even Jackson noticed and said "Mom, that kid is really whining." I responded, trying to make a lesson out of this to the effect of- "That's not a good way to get your mom's attention- if you really want to get your mom's attention you should........Jackson fills in: "WHINE WHINE WHINE!"

Okay, so he's probably right about that one.

Then Avery finished her ice cream and was yelling: "MORE more more!" I was pouring some of my mom's milkshake into Avery's cup when I asked Avery, "Avery what do you say to Grandma?"
Avery: "BIG BIG BIG!" (Her way of basically saying: give me a LOT!)

BIG news: Avery learned to pedal her bicycle today! She was so proud of herself and I was too. It's so much fun to watch her grow up. Also, she now can get herself out of the van all-by-herself!
And Jackson just takes on life with so much energy and enthusiasm (though that's not always the way I would explain it because he wears me out so much!) Today he learned to get on his old big wheel, pedal backwards down the driveway as fast as he could, then screech on his brakes while turning to pull himself full-speed-ahead laughing all the way! Man he is not afraid of anything!

So, I've been working hard to get my family tree kits selling on etsy. A couple bloggers noticed! How exciting!
Check me out here and here.
We've been working hard to get my mom's carpet and linoleum ripped up to put down her hardwood floors. Yesterday we also did some yard work at Kirtis' mom house. It was a beautiful HOT day yesterday! It felt so great to be outside and work hard. Let's just say I slept GOOD last night!
I hope you all have a happy easter! I'm excited to listen to our church's general conference this weekend. Definitely in need of some inspiration!
Here's the kids last week at our church easter party.
